[Notice sent via email to all current and new scheduled clients on 3/18/2020 at 11:25am titled “COVID-19 Response: Transition to Digital Sessions”]
Upon keeping up-to-date with recent governmental recommendations and reflecting on what I feel is my social responsibility to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), I have decided that I will make the transition to completing sessions solely via telehealth effective immediately. This applies to both new and existing clients. Although I view this change as temporary, the length of time for this transition is indefinite and will be dependent on continued governmental advisement.
This decision is partly due to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s encouragement to transition to digital services during this time. Due to this recommendation, this has also caused insurance companies to cover remote communications with the same cost to you as in-person services given the public health emergency. (Because of the constantly-shifting nature of things, there may be some exceptions to this for certain insurers like Priority Health or Blue Care Network so please contact me with any concerns prior to your next appointment.) You can find more about this formal notification here.
This recommendation even releases the requirement of communicating remotely via HIPAA-compliant sources. So, although I have a secure environment created in my home to promote privacy and you can complete secure sessions simply by logging into a secure portal (contact me directly to obtain this information) more informal platforms such as Apple FaceTime, Facebook Messenger video chat, Google Hangouts video, or Skype are now allowed during emergencies such as this.
I know we are all feeling the stress of shifting societal norms. So, I would also like to take a moment to encourage you that this is not a time to fear. It is merely a time to respond and practice showing love and support to one another in this time of need. Given this, if you or anyone you know is struggling, I would like to be more accessible via different communication methods and also through doing some additional pro bono work.
Given this desire to be more accessible, you can connect with me through normal communication channels (e.g. email, secure messaging through your portal). However, I am also transitioning to being available via secure (end-to-end encrypted) text messaging via the WhatsApp application for smartphones. You can reach me at (269) 213-5002 using this method of communication. And, although I will still be responding to communication through my general office number, (269) 254-1211, I would encourage you to use the WhatsApp application for number (269) 213-5002 to communicate with me via phone during this time due to the ease of accessibility and its privacy features.
As I mentioned in a previous email, based on trends around the world, I continue to suspect that further changes related to social interactions will be required. And, I view it as my ethical responsibility to stay proactively ahead of the curve to offer digital options in order to create a smooth transition in continuing to offer you therapeutic support during this unprecedented global climate. This decision was not made lightly, nor out of fear, but was made with love and the desire to support others as best I can during this difficult time.
I appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued efforts for your own support throughout this societal shift. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. And, as a reminder, until further notice, you can meet me here for any upcoming sessions that we have: (contact me directly to obtain this information). Just make sure you log on with either Firefox, Google Chrome, or via your Safari browser (for those using an Apple device) as the platform is not supported by Internet Explorer. And, due to the nature of unpredictability with technology, logging on prior to your appointment to work out any kinks with telecommunication is always advised.
Sending you peace and resilience,

Posted August 29, 2017 – ANNOUNCING AN EXCITING NEW PROJECT:
I am being featured as a Clinical Consultant to an ArtPrize 2017 project, “Healing through Body Art.” I am partnering with Kristen Adams, an amazing local professional face and body painter, who is doing live body paintings illustrating the resilience of those who have been through and are healing from trauma. Given that Grand Rapid’s ArtPrize is one of the biggest art competitions around, partnering with Kristen Adams is truly an honor! The live body paintings can be observed from September 20th through October 8th and yours truly will be on location on September 30th and 31st to offer support and resources to those who have questions or are looking to also recover from tragedy.
In her piece, Kristen is illustrating stories of recovery from anorexia, PTSD, drug abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, living as a transgender person, and others. She is also looking to fill 4 more slots for volunteers who want to tell their stories through art: on October 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th. Please contact her if you are interested in sharing your story. It is our hope that this project will raise awareness to taboo issues that are not usually talked about. Please call, text, or email Kristen at (269) 501-1451 or email@example.com.
Stay tuned for a T.V. interview on this topic and other exciting updates!

Are you looking for a FREE meditation group, ways to improve your stress management, or simply for some quiet time? If so, come join me for a FREE monthly meditation group every first Saturday of the month from 10-11am at my office. Seating is limited, so please remember to RSVP. But, bring whomever you want. The more the merrier!
Those of any religion, or even those with no religion at all, are welcome to attend this casual, nondenominational group. Also, feel free to bring your friends, family, or acquaintances to the group to share the serenity. Even other professionals looking for some relaxation are welcome to attend. The hour timeframe will include introductions, a brief meditation instruction, time to meditate, and a portion for questions and answers. Please arrive on time in order to respect the silence once the time for meditation has started. And, while I honor your role as a parent, in order to keep the atmosphere as relaxing as possible, I ask that only those who are well-behaved and at least 13 years old attend.
You are welcome to bring your own meditation cushion or comfort device as needed in order to attend to any physical needs you may have. Otherwise, we will be practicing sitting on chairs.
Thanks to Western Michigan University’s Teaching Assistants Union for hosting me for such an esteemed panel. It was a pleasure to talk about the important topic of stress management.
